While a babysitter is a must in order for parents to maintain their own lives, any good parent will want to make sure that they are leaving their child with somebody that they can trust. Is your babysitter following your directions, or are they inviting friends over to have a party? Are they being kind and loving toward your children, or are they explosive and angry?

It's not necessarily about the value of the babysitter as a human being, but about whether or not they are a suitable parental figure while your are out. Thankfully, there is a way around this problem.

Using Surveillance Equipment to Monitor Your Child

If you want to ensure that your children are being treated the way that you hope they are while you are away, one of the best ways to do this is through the use of surveillance equipment. Hidden cameras, sometimes called "nanny cameras," can be set up throughout the home.

While some parents are fond of installing hidden cameras, this really isn't the ideal solution. If you want to catch your babysitter in the act, this would be the way to do it. But if you're like most parents, you're not trying to "catch" your babysitter doing anything. You are trying to keep them safe.

Keep Your Cameras Out in the Open

The most effective way to take advantage of security cameras is to use them as a deterrent. It is the same logic that applies to the signs at stores that warn customers they are being watched.

You don't want to hide the fact that your babysitter is on camera. You want to be up front about it, so that they babysitter will remain on their best behavior. Knowing that everything they do is being recorded, they will be sure to follow your directions.
